Our aim in Year 1 is to ensure the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that the children have had in Reception.
Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the curriculum and the children will be gradually eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners.
I am sure that the children will enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 1 has to offer.
PE
The children will have PE on Tuesday. Please ensure they come to school in their PE kits. If it is cold they need to wear and outdoor kit. Pumps need to be sent into school and they will be kept in their PE boxes.
Please ensure that all items of clothes are clearly labelled with the children’s names.
Homework
Home work is sent out every Friday and needs to be returned on Tuesday. Some homework will be set via Purple Mash. The children will also be sent home with a pack of Common Exception words that they need to practice reading at home. These need to be returned on Friday when they will be tested.
As a school we subscribe to Maths Whizz. The children can work at their own pace and ability and it will help with the children’s progress.
